Abstract

Face recognition has received much attention in recent years due to its many applications such as human computer interface, video surveillance and face image database management. It is a challenging technique due to under different lighting conditions, facial expressions and changes in head pose. Single class of feature is not enough to capture all the available information in face. Multi algorithm approach of face recognition improves the accuracy using feature level fusion. This paper proposes an efficient technique for identification of an individual by using Average Half Face (AHF). We propose feature fusion technique using Principal component Analysis (PCA) and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). For classification, distance classifier is used. The proposed method was tested using the cropped extended Yale B database, where the images vary in illumination and expression. High recognition performance has been obtained by fusion of PCA and Wavelet features at feature level for average half face compared to full face.

Abstract

This paper aims in design and development of low cost, light weight, portable Telecardiac system for remote monitoring of cardiac patients. The proposed system employs a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), a reconfigurable platform that performs online analysis of the acquired ECG signal continuously. FPGA based Arrhythmia detector, implemented on a DE2 Altera Cyclone II board is interfaced with GSM/GPS module to alert the physician on a mobile phone about the imminent fatal condition and location of the patient. If the portable system detects any arrhythmia, it automatically sends an alarm condition to the patient's care taker and ambulance centre by sending an SMS that has information about the abnormal condition and location of the patient.

Abstract

Technological advancement in sensors and wireless communication has lead to the development of wireless sensor networks. One of the most important applications of sensor networks is for monitoring of vital functions of human body.  A number of tiny wireless sensors placed on the human body create a Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) that can collect    the various signs and provide feedback to the user and medical personnel. In these networks tiny and low power sensor nodes are placed on the human body. They are used for healthcare, entertainment and military applications. The purpose of this study is to introduce WBAN to the reader. Though the system has significant benefits, still it has challenges which are investigated in this paper.

Abstract

A number of tiny sensors are placed or implanted on the human body to form a network called as Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs). The function of the network includes the monitoring of the vital physionlogical values and communicating it to the physician for early diagnosis. The transmitted parameters are the personal record of a patient which demands security and privacy. It is an open issue to provide security to these kinds of networks since they are limited in together energy and power resources. Key establishment is an essential service for protected communication between a central device and each biosensor implanted in the human body. Though there are number of schemes, key generation using physiological values is considered to be efficient. The paper provides a biometric system to simulate ECG signals and also gives a comparative survey of various key establishment schemes using physiological values. The False Acceptance Rate (FAR) and False Rejection Rate FRR) are the performance metrics taken for the comparison.
